It was said by the greatest teacher that has ever walked the Earth Jesus Christ; “if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed……nothing shall be impossible to you.”

I met a man named Peter Laue, a faithful man, who through a simple prayer commanded a fifteen year cigaret addiction to leave a pleading woman never to return. And like a frightened animal running from a loud bang of a pot, the addictive spirit along with the craving it prompted, the same one that had afflicted this poor woman all those years, turned tail and ran.

“How is this possible,” the healed woman Barbara asks, as the realization crossed her smiling eyes, continuing, “I’ve always been told these addictions, we carry in us, maybe becoming them over time, and certainly are powerless to do anything about it?”

Peter reaches into his bathrobe and pulls out a simple matchbook with only simple text written on its face, John 14:1;“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me.”

Handing the matchbook to the woman, He says to her, “You want to make this kind of belief real in your life, here is a small mustard seed, a matchbook, that a single match can set off an atomic bomb.”

Her whole life she has been told that an addict was who she was, perhaps born that way, maybe even passed down from her parents, or somehow received as a punishment because of some things she done in the past.

“I believe, now help me with my unbelief…” she says with tear filled smile, telling him it was always her favorite scripture, while admitting never quite understanding what it meant.

The man reassured her that these are addictive spirits that cause anxiety attacks and elicit cravings, even pull the triggers that can push people over the edge of slavery if we let them. But God has given us the promise and dominion over everything in this Earth, including the emissaries of darkness.

Afflictions, addictions, depressions, oppressions, debt slavery, these are all attacks and nothing, compared to the power of a simple word when we merely look up to God for the answers to our issues and not down to the dirt. He goes on to tell her she is not a slave unless decides it herself, and by calling herself an addict, she might as well be one.

“I’m going to send you a box of these matchbooks, give them away to others and watch them seed a garden of miracles and deliverance from cigarette addictions.”
